Have you ever wondered why a couture dress is so expensive? A few days ago, Christian Dior unveiled Le Petit Théâtre Dior in China. The exhibition shows the story behind the miniature dresses crafted with full-scale precision.

Two beautiful videos were also released by Dior. They show us the incredible work that goes into making a couture gown. One of them were produced in Dior Couture’s Atelier de Fleurs Lemarie in Paris, we can see the handmade production process of a mini-sized Miss Dior gown (Spring/Summer 1949). This dress is valued at £25.000.
The short movie above shows the details of what goes into making a custom gown and the level of handwork necessary to create it. We see the dress built from start to finish – from pretty little flowers being cut out and shaped to the construction of frocks.
The second movie shows the making of “Mexique” dress:

The quality of the textiles and the countless hours of constructing and sewing account for the high costs of couture wear. I began to understand that more and more after watching designer documentaries. Thanks for such a great post.

Hi Sharon,
Thank you! I couldn’t agree more, High end fashion is expensive because quality has a price, handwork is not cheap and the high end fashion industry has a responsibility towards their workers.
