Good morning Everybody,
Past thursday was May 1st… and once again the Pratt Institute directed attention to very creative senior students and fashion designers in its 115th runway show. As one of the oldest fashion department in America, when the Pratt Intitute invites to its annual end-of-year fashion show, the A-List Fashion Industry and opinion leaders go!
That night the Institute presented the work of 21 fashion designers-to-be to about 548 VIP guests such as supermodel Pat Cleveland (who presented the show), designers Stephen Burrows and Byron Lars (who also won the 2014 Pratt Fashion Visionary Award), and Angela Bassett. The show happened in Chelsea, Manhattan.
Each student showed their interpretation of what belongs on the catwalk – from minimalistic tailoring to florals. One of those, the student Julia Wollner, won the Liz Claiborne Concept to Product Award and the $25.000 that comes with it. This awesome girl was inspired by her personal experiences with Bell’s palsy, a paralysis or weekness of the facial muscle caused by a damage to the facial nerve that controls the muscle, causing it – and consequently also that side of the face – to drop. She used abstract prints of her face, printed vinil and silhouettes to alternate mobility and stillness. Go Girl!
Isn’t it an inspiring example? I love it when people use things that some may consider weekness into their strenghs!
Have a lovely weekend guys and come back soon!
Love,
