As temperatures rise and the days are getting longer I am feeling the urge to work out more – and lose the few pounds that came with winter.
However, I don’t want to wait for sunny days and T-shirt weather to start doing domething for my body and health, I’m going to start now. Who wants to join me?!
Let’s get ahead of the game! Metabolism seems to be turned down every autumn and restored in spring. That is the reason why losing weight in winter seems to be almost impossible… but it doesn’t matter now, spring is knocking on our door and we still have time to adjust to the changes of diet and exercise.
Cardio is your friend: go running or go spinning – do whatever you like but know that cardio is a great way to burn all that winter fat. As some of you already know, I love playing tennis (sadly, I am not a big fan of jogging or hitting the gym) and for me there is no better cardio than 1-2h training, 2-3 times a week. If you don’t like working out, just remember that 30 minutes a day is a great way to start off – and who doesn’t have 30 minutes available?
No comfort foods: I hate dieting but when I few that it is time to lose a few pounds, I just cut down comfort foods and buy more whole grain products – actually I already eat a lot of whole grain, the problem starts when I go to my fave italian restaurant… well, you know how it is!
Functional training is as important as cardio: To lose weight healthly and fast we need to build up muscles (because muscles burn a whole lot of calories and tone the limbs!). I go to Pilates/Yoga twice a week cause I need strong muscles for playing tennis (well, and I am addicted to that too)! However, if you hate sports, just hold a plank position for five minutes a day, you will work many muscles of your body with that.
If you don’t want to spend money on gym, personal trainer, etc. I have a gread advice for you, try FitnessBlender! They have hundreds of videos online and I am sure you will find something interesting for you.
Don’t forget your New Year’s resolutions: If you planed on losing weight and getting fit than you know that there was a good reason for doing so. Remember your determination when you made this resolution and get motivated!
And what do you think? Let’s do this?
